Pre-Romanesque art is the roughly 400 year period in Western European art from about the Carolingian Renaissance in the 8th century, to the beginning of the 12th century Romanesque period. A Tondo is a small round picture in a frame. Particularly in the Italian art of 15th and 16th century was this special form likes. Like in a logo the scene is consolidated and omitted to a large extent unimportant. That again does not differentiate it insignificantly from the actual panorama picture. While in the painting the background is to be seen often still as suggestion, it is missing mostly completely with the reliefs. There are thus Tondi both and painted pictures and and reliefs. Admits already is it in ancient Rome. As example there is such Tondo with the portrait of the Greek poet Menander. The Menander-tondo of Marbury-Hall are very famous.
