Beauveria bassiana is a fungus which grows in soils throughout the world and causes disease in various insects by acting as a parasite. It is used as an insecticide to control a number of pests such as termites, and its use in the control of the malaria-causing mosquitos is under investigation. ...more on Wikipedia about "Beauveria bassiana"
Brettanomyces is a single-celled fungus that is important in brewing and winemaking as it is resistant to alcohol so can grow even after fermentation starts. It is often shortened to brett. ...more on Wikipedia about "Brettanomyces"
Candida is a genus of yeasts (the most important being Candida albicans) that can cause fungal infections ( candidiasis) in humans and other animals. Candida grows in the medical laboratory as large, round, white or cream (albicans meaning 'whitish') colonies on agar plates. ...more on Wikipedia about "Candida (genus)"
Candida albicans, a diploid sexual fungus (a form of yeast) is the causal agent of opportunistic infections in humans, the most common being oral and vaginal infections. Systemic fungal infections ( fungemias) have emerged as important causes of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients (e.g., AIDS, cancer chemotherapy, organ or bone marrow transplantation). In addition, hospital-related infections in patients not previously considered at risk (e.g. patients on an intensive care unit) have become a cause of major health concern. ...more on Wikipedia about "Candida albicans"
Candida dubliniensis is an organism associated with AIDS patients. It is a germ-cell positive yeast of the genus Candida, similar to Candida albicans but it forms a different cluster upon DNA fingerprinting. ...more on Wikipedia about "Candida dubliniensis"

The chestnut blight is a fungal disease caused by the sac fungus ( Ascomycota), Cryphonectria parasitica (formerly Endothia parasitica), which has virtually eliminated the once-widespread American chestnut tree. ...more on Wikipedia about "Chestnut blight"
Cladonia (cup lichen) is a genus of moss-like lichens in the family Cladoniaceae. They are the primary food source for reindeer and caribou. Cladonia species are of economic importance to reindeer-herders, such as the Sami in Scandinavia or the Nenets in Russia. Antibiotic compounds are extracted from some species to create antibiotic cream. The light green species Cladonia stellaris is used in flower decorations. ...more on Wikipedia about "Cladonia"
Reindeer lichen (c.p. Sw. renlav), lat. Cladonia rangiferina, is a light-colored, fruticose lichen belonging to the family Cladoniaceae. It grows in both hot and cold climates in well-drained, open environments. Found primarily in areas of alpine tundra, it is extremely cold-hardy. ...more on Wikipedia about "Cladonia rangiferina"
Cladoniaceae is a family of lichens in the order Lecanorales. The family is classified as fungi. Reindeer moss (Cladina) and cup lichen ( Cladonia) belong to this family. ...more on Wikipedia about "Cladoniaceae"

Cordyceps is a genus of ascomycete fungi, the most famous of which is the vegetable caterpillar — Cordyceps sinensis. All Cordyceps species are parasitic, mainly on insects and other arthropods; a few are parasitic on other fungi. The mycelium invades and eventually replaces the host tissue, while the fruiting body may be cylindrical, branched, or of very complex shape. ...more on Wikipedia about "Cordyceps"

Ergot is the common name of a fungus in the genus Claviceps. The fungus is parasitic on certain grains and grasses. The form the fungus takes to over-winter is called a sclerotium, and this small structure is what is usually referred to as 'ergot', although referring to the members of the Claviceps genus as 'ergot' is also correct. There are about 50 known species of Claviceps, most of them in the tropical regions. Economically important species are Claviceps purpurea (parasitic on grasses and cereals), C. fusiformis (on pearl millet, buffel grass), C. paspali (on dallis grass), and C. africana ** (on sorghum). C. purpurea can affect a number of cereals including rye (its most common host), triticale, wheat and barley. It affects oats only rarely. ...more on Wikipedia about "Ergot"
