Aegina ( Greek: Αίγινα Egina), one of the Saronic Islands of Greece in the Saronic Gulf, 31 miles (50 km) from Athens. Tradition derives the name from Aegina, the mother of Aeacus, who was born in and ruled the island. Aianteio or Aiantio or Eantio ( Greek: Αιάντιον) older forms Aiantio, Aiandion, Eantion and Eandion is a large village in the southwestern part of Salamis Island and has about 5,000 people. The village in the medieval times and until the late- 20th century was known as Moulki (Μούλκι). In this city there are some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. There are many cafeterias and clubs where young people enjoy time. There are many piney mountains in the area. Much of the population are farmers or some others have commercial stores. In the region, there are churches of the 12th and the 11th century such as Saint John and Saint Dimitrios. Two very good monuments for visiting is the church of Saint John the Calivitis, the most ancient church in the island which dates in the 9th century and it has remarkable hagiographies. The other monument is the monastery of Saint Nicolas which dates in the 18th century. It is situated in a lovely forest.It is an interesting monument for archeological observations. Ampelakia has a very long history. There is the Ampelakia Bay it had been done the famous battleship of Salamina in 480 BC where the Greek ships have defeated the great Persian fleet of the Xerxes. Moreover there are many remnants of the ancient town of Salamina which was financially strong between 350 and 318 BC when there were cutting coins with the shield of the legendary hero Ajax. There are churches also which date in the 16th century like St. John, St. Peter. Today is a nice city for walking. The majority people are sailors. However the ancient port is full of shipwrecks of old ships from the last 20 years. There is an effort from the state to clean the port and continue the excavations. Aspropyrgos ( Greek: Ασπρόπυργος for white tower). is a suburban community located 20 NW of Athens in the heart of the Thriasian plain, and Thria was known in ancient times. The population is around 27,500. Its dialing code is 210. Its main street is Dimokratias Avenue. Aspropyrgos used to be an petroleum|oil producing community and oil was its main industry along with agriculture. Agriculture is, however, rare today. Eleusis military airport forms its communal and municipal boundary in its west. Mount Parnitha is in the northeast. A small port is founded in the south and the shores are aligned with trees. Willow and other types of pineless trees dominate the city's coastline. Aegaleo mountain is in the southwest and its landscape is rocky. Its nearest highway is GR-8A/E94 with its interchange at 2 km south of the centre. The interchange was a junction until 1994. It was closed off from 1996 until 1997 to extend the number of lanes to four. The main street also serves a road that linked the Peloponnese and the northern and eastern suburbs of Athens. The industrial area is in the southeastern part of the Aspropyrgos and the entire south is also industrialized. Attiki Odos is now accessible to its north with an interchange. The high-speed rail will be founded to the north but will have no nearby station. The refinery south of the city is producing oil since its opening. The size and production is smaller than Corinth's refinery. Pollution has been a problem for years. The refinery includes depots in the southern and the eastern part and some in the western part and a dock to the southwest. The Skaramangas Bay is to the south. A lagoon where the area is less than 1 km². The highway is in the west and the boundary with Chaidari is in the south. The Aegaleo Ring is situated in the east but not fully accessible. In the mountain, there is a cave of archeological interest that has not been investigated yet. In the winter there are few tourists; it is more popular with tourists from Athens during the summer months.
