BitTorrent BitTorrent is the name of a client application for the torrent peer-to-peer (P2P) file distribution protocol created by programmer Bram Cohen. BitTorrent is designed to widely distribute large amounts of data without incurring the corresponding consumption in server and bandwidth resources (and typically, monetary fees attracted as a result of that). ...more on Wikipedia about "BitTorrent"
A BitTorrent tracker is a server which assists in the communication between peers using the BitTorrent protocol. It is also, without any extension to the original protocol, the only major single point of failure, as clients are required to communicate with the tracker to initiate downloads. (Clients that have already begun downloading also communicate with the tracker periodically to negotiate with newer peers and provide statistics, however, after the initial reception of peer data, peer communication can continue without a tracker.) ...more on Wikipedia about "BitTorrent tracker"
Channel BT is a euphemism for the illegal downloading of television shows via the peer to peer network BitTorrent or other file sharing networks. It was popularised as a term in multiple forums in Australia (most notably the Australian Broadband Forum website Whirlpool) to signify people were using peer to peer networks to download and watch United States television shows many months or even years prior to their release on local television stations, as many U.S. television shows are shown in other countries six to twelve months later than in the U.S., if at all. ...more on Wikipedia about "Channel BT"
Protocol header encrypt (PHE), Message stream encryption (MSE) or Protocol header encryption (PHE) are features of some BitTorrent clients that attempts to make BitTorrent hard to throttle. Some ISPs throttle BitTorrent traffic because it makes up a large porportion of total traffic and the ISPs don't want to spend money buying extra capacity. Instead, the ISPs spend money on hardware that look for BitTorrent traffic and slow them down. ...more on Wikipedia about "Protocol header encrypt"
(Super-seeding) Super seeding is a feature of some BitTorrent clients that attempts to minimize the amount of data uploaded by the original seed until the first completion of a downloading peer. The feature was conceived by John Hoffman and first implemented in the BitTornado client in mid 2003. Super seeding is a change in the behavior of seeds and may be implemented without violating the BitTorrent protocol. However, it is not endorsed by the protocol designer, Bram Cohen, nor is it found in the official client. ...more on Wikipedia about "Super-seeding"
