The slaves of Brazil had been freed in 1888. More and more in the following decades, the coffee barons tried to obtain laborers from other sources, mostly from " white" European sources. The sinister plan to bring in white people with the purpose of "whitening" the Brazilian population by intermixing should sound like a disturbing thought today. However, apparently that was very much the intent of the Brazilian " Lords" of the day. This plan had a name, it was called Branqueamento (" Whitening"). Yet another sad commentary on humanity's propensity for racism. ...more on Wikipedia about "Lithuanians in Brazil"

About Topazio The Capoeira Group Topázio was established in Salvador (Bahia) March 1988 by Raimundo dos Santo, more known in the "capoeirístico" world as Mestre Dinho. Mestre Dinho teachings were generated from Mestre Finho, a teacher known in the rodas (capoeira circle) of Salvador of Massarunduba. Today, the Group Topázio is undergoing important work with their own methods as well as their own affluent philosophy, different to the other existing groups in Bahia. With a strong technique, the Topázio Group is spreading capoeira in three aspects, they include: a) CAPOEIRA ART and CITIZENSHIP b) CAPOEIRA SHOW. c) CAPOEIRA FIGHT. Capoeira art and Citizenship Through this project, the Topázio Group is helping in the recovery and integration of the "children of the streets". With implantations of communitarian schools (public schools where it is introduced to them with the purpose of one first taking contact with the educative world) in the districts with greater deficiency in urban zones as well as in suburbs of the Salvadoran city. This project has given rise to quite positive results: causing that the minors of the street leave the sub-world of drugs, and allow them to train in capoeira in the communitarian schools and day-care centers extended by the entire suburb. In addition, these children and adolescents learn another type of activities related to folklore and music: Maculele, Puxada de Rede, Dance of the Cafezais, Samba, and as well as knowing to play instruments like berimbau, pandeiro, atabaque and others. Capoeira Show In the Solar de Unhão, one of the touristy restaurants in Salvador, there are daily exhibitions of folkloric shows that are organized and directed by the Mestre Dinho. Besides the rich bahiana gastronomy, the tourists attend the spectacles dance, afros rates, and of course, capoeira. Mestre Dinho, along with the Group, participates in exhibitions for local and national networks of television, having already participated with articles in the best magazines and newspapers of all the country. With more than 33 years of capoeira, Mestre Dinho has already visited a great number of countries, in which he make courses, seminaries and spectacles as well as disclosing the work of the Topázio Group in benefit of capoeira Bahiana and Brazilian. Capoeira Fight It is our own Mestre Dinho that says: "capoeira always was and it will always be a fight". The Topázio Group is comprised of highly studied techniques that were introduced by the Mestre, but at the same time conserving the roots of mother capoeira (case of Angola and Regional). The Mestre recently created a different technique and eventually other capoeiristas from other schools began to criticise. We refer ourselves to the union of capoeira with diverse movements in the hand-to-hand combat. And it is then when Mestre Dinho began to train in capoeira, he viewed other martial arts like: Taekwondo, Judo, Jiu-jitsu, Free Fight, Boxing, etc for knowledge, but always staying faithful to capoeira. Its objective is to learn the different techniques and what he found better in each one of them to give greater efficiency to his own technique within capoeira. With time, Dinho became one of the most famous and respected capoeiristas in Bahia. OBSERVATION: That introduction of the hand-to-hand combat is the continuity work of Mestre Bimba. When creating capoeira regional, he introduced styles from other arts including those of hand-to-hand combat. When still he made exhibitions in the Moenda restaurant. The Capoeira-Jiujitsu is neither more nor less than a perfect and harmonious combination of techniques. Thus returning, the Capoeira Topázio, an instrument of defence is able to give security, confidence and tranquillity to the athletes of the Group. Vale Tudo The Topázio Group also participates in competitions of "everything counts" and having Mestre Dinho as one of the organizers as well as participating as a judge in the fights made in Salvador. == ...more on Wikipedia about "Mestre Dinho"
