Chiropractic

Chiropractic, also known as chiropractic care, is a health care discipline with an underlying principle that health problems can be prevented and treated using spinal adjustments in order to correct spinal dysfunction, or subluxations. Chiropractic maintains that the brain and nervous system control and coordinate all the body's functions in part through nerve branches that exit from the spinal cord between the vertebrae. Some chiropractors infer a causal relationship between nerve interference or compression at the spine and subsequent problems in more distant parts or organ systems regulated by the nerve. ...more on Wikipedia about "Chiropractic"

A Doctor of Chiropractic - also known as a "chiropractor" - is the health professional whose job is to treat, correct, and prevent neurological, skeletal, or soft tissue dysfunction by employing spinal and other articular adjustments and manipulations. He or she evaluates a patient's health by conducting a history and physical examination. This examination utilizes inspection, palpation, and other diagnostic testing including, but not limited to diagnostic imaging, laboratory diagnostics, etc. After diagnoses have been made, a Doctor of Chiropractic may choose several non-pharmaceutical, non-surgical methods to correct vertebral subluxations and other neuromusculoskeletal ailments to re-establish better neurological, muscular, and skeletal function in the body. Most methods include some form of adjustment where a specific manual contact point is calculated and a specific force is delivered along specific vectors to correct the vertebral misalignment. This adjustment is made by contacting specific bony structures at the spinal level where the chiropractor has found the subluxation. The chiropractor makes use of a variety of diagnostic tools to determine the location and nature of the subluxation. ...more on Wikipedia about "Doctor of Chiropractic"

Innate Intelligence (II) is a concept that was originally coined by Daniel David Palmer, the founder of chiropractic. This concept states that all life contains Innate Intelligence and that this force is responsible for the organization, maintenance and healing of the body. Historically, chiropractors believed that they removed the interference to the nervous system (by way of spinal manipulation) and that when the spine is in correct alignment, Innate Intelligence can act, by way of the nervous system, to heal all disease. ...more on Wikipedia about "Innate intelligence"

A spinal adjustment is the method of choice for treatment of musculoskeletal conditions by chiropractors. Commonly referred to as an "adjustment," this chiropractic treatment is defined as a high velocity, low amplitude thrust used to restore proper function to a joint. This is often associated with a loud audible popping sound that results from nitrogen gas being released from the synovial fluid found in diarthrodial joints. When an adjustment is performed by a chiropractor, the force applied separates the joint surfaces of the fully encapsulated joint creating a relative vacuum within the joint space. In this low pressure environment, the naturally dissolved nitrogen found in all bodily fluids turns into a gas and a sound is heard. This gas bubble will remain within the joint for hours while it is slowly reabsorbed by the body. ...more on Wikipedia about "Spinal adjustment"
