John Weaver ( July 21, 1673 - September 24, 1760) was a dancer and choreographer and is commonly known as the father of English pantomime. He was born in Shrewsbury, England. His father, being a dance teacher, suggested Weaver go to London and become a ballet master. Weaver soon became a specialist in comic roles and created the first pantomime ballet, the burlesque Tavern Bilkers (1702). His more serious work, The Loves of Mars and Venus dealt with themes from classical literature and required a significant amount of gestures due to the story not being expressed in any spoken form. In the summer of 2002, Julie showed off her acting skills when she had a role in the movie Washington Heights with Manny Perez. Mary Wigman ( 1886 – 1973) was a German dancer, choreographer, and teacher. Wigman was a very influential German dancer who took inspiration not only from the Dada and surrealist movements around her, but from Non-Western culture as well. She would often dance to tribal sounds created by flutes, drums, and gongs of China, Africa, Thailand, and India. Mary Wigman's "Hexatanz" or "Witch Dance" will be revived for the programme, "The Art of the Solo" to be presented on September 29, 2006 at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The newly restored musical score by William Goetze has also been recreated using portions of the music on the film and portions of the original written score found in Rudolph Bach's book, "Das Mary Wigman Verk". The programme is curated by Mino Nicolas who has recreated many works of seminal dance choreographers of the 20th century.
