An estuary is a semi-enclosed coastal body of water which has a free connection with the open sea and within which sea water mixes with fresh water. A tide is a necessary component to maintain a dynamic relationship between the two waters. Though something in the nature of an estuary can exist in a non-tidal sea, such areas go by names such as lagoon, étang or laguna. In non-tidal seas, the rivers naturally form deltas rather than estuaries. ...more on Wikipedia about "Estuary"

The Oosterschelde (Eastern Scheldt) is an estuary in Zeeland, the Netherlands, between Schouwen-Duiveland and Tholen on the north and Noord-Beveland and Zuid-Beveland on the south. Later parts of that lost land was reclaimed, restricting part of the connection to the Scheldt river to a narrow channel called the Kreekrak, which silted up and became unnavigable, and in 1903 was closed off with a railway embankment, connecting in the process the island of Zuid-Beveland to the mainland of North Brabant. ...more on Wikipedia about "Oosterschelde"
