The New Look was the name given to the women's clothing fashions introduced by Parisian fashion designer Christian Dior in the spring of 1947. This collection influenced fashion and other designers for over ten years. Contrary to what people today might think, the signature shape -- full- skirted, mid-calf length, small-waisted, large-breasted -- was hugely popular after a short initial period of rejection. Dior also presented a tight-skirted silhouette, still mid-calf and with very low necklines. Both the full-skirted shape and the skin-tight straight skirt were extremely popular with teenage girls during the 1950s, and they were especially suited for petite figures. Even so, the silhouette was widely considered flattering, even for older women, especially for evening wear. ...more on Wikipedia about "New Look"

Ready-to-wear or prêt-à-porter is the fashion design term for clothing marketed in a finished condition, in standard clothing sizes (in casual usage, off the rack or "off-the-peg"). Some fashion houses or fashion designers create ready-to-wear lines that are mass-produced and industrially manufactured, while others offer lines that are very exclusive and produced only in limited numbers and only for a limited time. Whatever the quantity produced, these lines are never one of a kind. Fashion houses that produce a haute couture line, such as Chanel, Dior, and Lacroix, each produce a ready-to-wear line, which returns a greater profit due to the availability of the clothing. Relative to couture, ready-to-wear clothing is often more practical and informal, though these things are not always the case. The craftsmanship of ready-to-wear clothing is also held to a lower standard than that of haute couture. High-end ready-to-wear lines are sometimes based upon a famous gown or pattern that is then duplicated to raise the designer's visibility level. ...more on Wikipedia about "Ready-to-wear"

A supermodel is a highly paid fashion model in an elite group with a worldwide reputation. In an article in Glamour Magazine in 1968, author described Twiggy, Cheryl Tiegs, Verushka, Jean Shrimpton and fifteen other top models as "Supermodels" (Click link to right to see article) ** The term "Supermodel" gained currency by analogy with Andy Warhol's " superstars" of the 1960s, and, like "superstardom", it has been conflated to include almost anyone who finds steady access to work, with top designers, fashion magazines and commercial clients; uncommon in the highly volatile fashion industry. In the early 60s the term "top models" was used by magazines/fashion critics to define famous and highly paid models, way before the term "supermodel" became popular. Today, these two terms are used to define two different groups. "Supermodels" according to Tyra Banks are famous highly paid models, and "top models" are noted fashion models. ...more on Wikipedia about "Supermodel"
