The Laughing Man (笑い男, warai otoko) is a character in the fictional anime series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. He is an expert hacker who, in an age of cybernetics where people are directly wired into technology, can hack into other people, taking over their bodies or tricking their sensory input. The name is taken from the title of a short story by J. D. Salinger, The Laughing Man. The Laughing Man logo is an animated image of a goofy smile wearing a cap, with circling text quoting a line from Salinger's novel The Catcher in the Rye, which reads: "I'd thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes." Other references to Salinger's book The Catcher in the Rye, include the red cap that the real Laughing Man wears backwards. Another is his reference to "phonies", a term used frequently by Rye's Holden Caulfield. Lastly, when the major enters the Laughing Man's library near the end of the series, the camera zooms on her hand moving over the phrase "Fuck you" written on the railing. In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden says "You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write 'Fuck you' right under your nose." ...more on Wikipedia about "Laughing Man (Ghost in the Shell)"

Strong Bad is a primary character in the fictional world of Homestar Runner. He is best known for his "Strong Bad Emails", in which he is shown typing answers to questions written by visitors to the site (on his Lappy 486). Modelled after a Mexican wrestler character featured in Nintendo's " Tag Team Wrestling," he is shirtless with boxing gloves for hands (though a running gag on the website claims that he originally had oven mitts) and a luchador's wrestling mask for a face. Though originally presented as a villain, Strong Bad has been favorably embraced by pop-culture for his quick-witted sarcasm and infectiously abrasive voice. He is usually seen as the most popular character, although some fans object to the frequency which he appears in comparison to other characters. ...more on Wikipedia about "Strong Bad"
