Fire

Arson is the crime of setting a fire with intent to cause damage. The common law definition of arson originally contained four elements; the crime required the malicious act of burning the dwelling of another person. Although arson fires are referred to as incendiary, not all incendiary fires are considered arson, the difference being malicious intent. ...more on Wikipedia about "Arson"

The autoignition temperature, also known as the fire point, of a substance is the lowest temperature at which a chemical will spontaneously combust in a normal atmosphere, without an external source of ignition, such as a flame or spark. This temperature is required to supply the activation energy needed for combustion. The lowest temperature at which a substance will ignite in the presence of an external source of ignition is known as its flash point. ...more on Wikipedia about "Autoignition temperature"

A bonfire or balefire is a large controlled outdoor fire made from bales of straw or wood. The word is believed to be a corruption of "bone fire" deriving from a Celtic midsummer festival where animal bones were burnt to ward off evil spirits. In Great Britain, bonfires are particularly associated with Guy Fawkes Night (also known as fireworks night or bonfire night), an annual commemoration of the discovery of the Gunpowder Plot on 5 November 1605. While in Northern Ireland, they are associated with celebrations on the anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne, which took place on 12 July 1690. Along with the Maypole, it is an important component of the Wiccan and Neopagan celebration of Beltaine, also known as May Day. ...more on Wikipedia about "Bonfire"

A bushfire is a wildfire that occurs in the forests, scrubs, woodlands or grasslands of Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia or elsewhere. In the southeast, bushfires tend to be most common and most severe, during summer and autumn, in drought years, and particularly in El NiƱo years. In the north, bushfires usually occur during winter (the dry season), and fire severity tends to be more associated with seasonal growth patterns. In the southwest, similarly, bushfires occur in the summer dry season and severity is usually related to seasonal growth. Fire frequency in the north is difficult to assess, as the vast majority of fires are deliberately started by humans. ...more on Wikipedia about "Bushfire"

A campfire is a fire lit at a campsite, usually in a fire ring. Campfires are a popular feature of camping, particularly among organized campers such as Scouts or Guides. Without proper precautions they are also potentially dangerous. A certain degree of skill is needed to properly build a campfire, to keep it going, and to see that it is properly extinguished. ...more on Wikipedia about "Campfire"

Fire, a form of combustion, is the most spectacular chemical phenomenon. Linguistically, the word fire refers to the combination of the brilliant glow and large amount of heat released during a rapid, self-sustaining burning of combustible fuel. Technically, fire is not a state of matter; it is an exothermic oxidation process by which heat and light energy are given out. Fire starts when a fuel with adequate supply of oxygen or other oxidizer is subjected to enough heat, and it is sustained by the further release of heat energy in the process, as well as a continuous supply of oxygen and combustible fuel. A match or lighter is usually used to start a fire (which can then propagate to other combustibles) because matches and lighters are designed with materials of low burning point. Fire is extinguished when one or more of heat, oxidizer, or fuel is removed. The unburnable solid remains of a fire are termed ash. ...more on Wikipedia about "Fire"

A fire eater is an entertainer, often a street artist or part of a sideshow. The performer places flaming objects into their mouth and extinguishes them. They also practice controlling and transferring the flame. ...more on Wikipedia about "Fire eater"

A firestorm is the mass movement of air resulting from fire, creating a fire of extreme intensity over a wide area. It is most commonly a natural phenomenon, created during forest fires, and some of the largest forest fires, such as the Great Peshtigo Fire, have been firestorms. A firestorm can also be a deliberate effect of targeted explosives. ...more on Wikipedia about "Firestorm"

A flame is a self-sustaining oxidizing chemical reaction most often producing carbon dioxide and gaseous water. It consists of reacting gases emitting heat and light, which is dependent on the chemical composition of the burning flame. In many cases such as burning organic matter like wood or incomplete combustion of gas, incandescent solid particles ( soot) produce the familiar red-orange ' fire' color light. This light has a continuous spectrum. Complete combustion of gas has a dim blue color due to the emission of single wavelength radiations from various electron transitions in the excited molecules formed in the flame. Usually oxygen is involved, but hydrogen burning in chlorine produces a flame as well, producing hydrogen chloride HCl. Other possible combinations producing flames (amongst many more) are fluorine and hydrogen or hydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide. ...more on Wikipedia about "Flame"

The flash point of a fuel is the lowest temperature at which it can form an ignitable mix with air. At this temperature the vapor may cease to burn when the source of ignition is removed. A slightly higher temperature, the fire point, is defined at which the vapor continues to burn after being ignited. Neither of these parameters are related to the temperatures of the ignition source or of the burning fuel, which are much higher. ...more on Wikipedia about "Flash point"

A pyre is a structure, such as a mound of wood, for burning a body as part of a funeral rite. An early form of cremation, a body or bodies is placed upon the pyre and the pyre is set on fire. In a Viking funeral the pyre was built on a ship, which was then floated out to sea as it burned. Pyres are uncommon in the Western world in modern times and have been replaced by indoor cremation in a crematorium. ...more on Wikipedia about "Pyre"

Tinder is easily flammable material used to ignite fires by rudimentary methods. A small fire consisting of tinder is then used to ignite kindling. Anything that can be ignited by a match can be considered tinder. Materials commonly used as tinder include: ...more on Wikipedia about "Tinder"

Historically, a tinderbox is a small container containing flint, steel, and dry, finely-divided fibrous matter (such as straw), used together to help kindle a fire. Tinderboxes fell out of general usage when matches were invented. ...more on Wikipedia about "Tinderbox"
