The team was started by Alex von Falkenhausen, who was in the 1930s an important engineer in the development of BMW's model 328, along with Alfred Boning, Ernst Loof and Fritz Fiedler. Alta was a Formula One constructor from Britain. By 1945 Geoffrey Taylor, builder of lesser race cars, began to plan a car of Formula One dimensions. Three years later he completed his first car which debuted at the Swiss GP in 1948 driven by John Heath and unfortunately, lasting for just seven laps. For 1950, three Alta Formula 1 cars and a strong supply of HWM engines were in the GP series with drivers such as Joe Kelly and Stirling Moss, this last one managing a third place at Bari and second place at Mettet. Anglo American Racers was a Formula One constructor from the USA. They participated in 25 Grands Prix, entering a total of 34 cars. The team was originally named All American Racers, established in Santa Ana, California in 1964, by Dan Gurney, to run sportscars for him to drive in the United States between his Formula 1 commitment with the Brabham team. In that same year, Carroll Shelby, who was running Goodyear tires on his Cobra sportscars, introduced Gurney to the tiremaker because Goodyear wanted to take on Firestone at Indianapolis. A deal was struck and work began on an Indycar for 1966. Gurney hired Len Terry, the designer of the Indianapolis-winning Lotus in 1965 and he laid out a mid-engined chassis, baptized Eagle, which would serve for both Formula 1 and Indycar racing. (British Racing Partnership) BRP was a Formula One constructor from the United Kingdom, established by Alfred Moss, Stirling Moss's father, in the late 1950's to run cars for Stirling, when not under contract with other firms. They ran a Cooper-Borgwards F2 car and BRM F1 car in 1959, the latter being demolished in a spectacular Avus crash. BRP later changing to run Lotus 24's and tried to acquire the more modern, monococque Lotus 25 from Lotus without success. This caused chief designer, Tony Robinson, to design his own monocoque car, patterned very closely after the Lotus 25, but with a thicker skin and running a BRM V8 rather than the typical Coventry Climax engine run in the Lotus 25.
