Ampeg is an American instrument amplifier manufacturer. Although the company specializes in the production of electric bass guitar amplification, Ampeg manufactures electric guitar and orchestral stand-up bass amplifiers as well. Ampeg first existed under the name "Michaels-Hull Electronic Labs", as it comprised a partnership between Everett Hull, an accomplished pianist and bassist, and Stanley Michaels. The original mission of the company was to produce a new microphone pickup that Hull designed. Intended to fit onto the end of an upright bass, the pickup was dubbed the "Amplified Peg" or "Ampeg" for short. After gaining sole proprietorship of the company, Hull changed the company’s name to "Ampeg Bassamp Company". ...more on Wikipedia about "Ampeg"

BEHRINGER Spezielle Studiotechnik GmbH (Behringer) is a German company, founded in its present form in 1989, that manufactures and sells musical equipment. The company began outsourcing manufacturing to China before it was common among other manufacturers in this field. By doing this, the company has managed to be a major player in the low cost segment of such equipment. The company has been accused of copying other manufacturers' designs, resulting in corporate lawsuits from Alesis, Mackie, and Roland (makers of the BOSS Brand). These lawsuits and the, sometimes improbable, low price of Behringer's equipment has resulted in a somewhat questionable reputation amongst some music professionals, with accusations of shoddy craftsmanship and low longevity of their equipment. However, Behringer has been able to provide music technology students and enthusiasts with user-friendly products at a low cost in comparison to their competitors. They use Jensen brand speakers, which are very good quality and also used by Fender. They make very low priced amps that provide good tones, many different adjustments and also a series that comes with over 20 digital effects (auto-wah, chorus, flanger, etc.) built in. These effects use the company's "V-Tone" technology, which models them to sound like analog effects (which typically sound clearer and sharper). ...more on Wikipedia about "Behringer"

Gallien-Krueger is a musical instrument amplifier manufacturer. Based in San Jose, California, it is generally considered the premier maker of 100% solid-state amplifiers for bass guitar. Unlike many other solid-state designs, Gallien-Krueger amplifiers' equalization section is wired in series, creating a much "warmer" and more "natural" sound than that achievable by other firms' solid-state preamplifiers. The company's 800RB model was the first relatively affordable bass amp with built-in biamplification capability. Famous 800RB users include Duff McKagan ( Guns N' Roses), Tony Kanal ( No Doubt), and Tom Hamilton ( Aerosmith); it remains wildly popular today. ...more on Wikipedia about "Gallien-Krueger"

Marshall Amplification is a British company which designs and manufactures electric guitar amplifiers. Marshall amplifiers are well known and highly popular among guitarists. The sight and sound of a Marshall stack amp with a Gibson Les Paul or Fender Stratocaster is an iconic image in pop-cuture. To this day, top-line Marshall amplifiers still use valve preamp and poweramp stages instead of solid-state devices ( transistors), although Marshall also manufactures cheaper solid-state or hybrid devices. Vacuum tube amplifiers (known as "valve amplifiers" in the UK) are generally considered to exhibit a "warmer" tone than that of transistors, particularly when overdriven; instead of abruptly clipping off the signal at cut-off and saturation levels, the signal is smoothly rounded off. Vacuum tubes also exhibit different harmonic effects than transistors (see tube sound for more about the sonic differences between transitors and vacuum tubes). ...more on Wikipedia about "Marshall Amplification"
