Heat pumps

Absorptive refrigeration utilizes a source of heat to provide the energy needed to drive the cooling process. The most common use is in food refrigeration. Absorptive refrigeration is also used to air-condition buildings utilizing the waste heat from a gas turbine or water heater. The process is very efficient, since the gas turbine produces electricity, hot water and air-conditioning. ...more on Wikipedia about "Absorptive refrigeration"

The coefficient of performance of a heat pump is the ratio of the output heat to the supplied work or ...more on Wikipedia about "Coefficient of performance"

Gas compression heat pumps using the Stirling cycle are commonly used to liquefy air in order to produce liquid nitrogen, oxygen, argon, etc. for industrial purposes. ...more on Wikipedia about "Gas compression heat pump"

A geothermal exchange heat pump, also known as a ground source heat pump, is a heat pump that uses the Earth as either a heat source or a heatsink depending on the mode of operation: heating or cooling. Geothermal heat pumps are either open or closed systems and typically consist of a loop of pipe, a compressor, and a pump. Closed systems circulate a fluid which never leaves the heat pump system. A direct expansion system is a special form of closed system that eliminates one heat exchanger by running the refrigerant pipe directly into the ground. Open systems pump a fluid from one place to another, remove or add heat, but do not return that fluid. ...more on Wikipedia about "Geothermal exchange heat pump"

Geothermal heating is a method of heating and cooling a building. It takes advantage of the natural stable warmth stored in the earth. Normally the earth temperature is around 55°F (12.8°C)at depths of 10ft (3m). This is accomplished by one of a number of methods. A heat pump uses the extracted water or transfer fluid as a heat source in winter and a heat sink in summer. Some heat pumps provide heating and cooling via forced air distribution others through the heating (or chilling ) of water for radiant type systems. Some systems are used to heat domestic hot water. ...more on Wikipedia about "Geothermal heating"

A heat pump is a machine which moves heat from a low temperature reservoir to a higher temperature reservoir under supply of work. ...more on Wikipedia about "Heat pump"

A phase change heat pump employs a liquid with a low boiling point to transfer heat from cooler space to a warmer space; generally in a refrigeration application. It is the most common heat pump used in domestic refrigerators, and heat pumps are also used in air conditioning systems to transfer heat from the outside of a building to the inside or vice versa depending upon a valve position. ...more on Wikipedia about "Phase change heat pump"

A refrigerator (often shortened to fridge) is an electrical or gas appliance that uses refrigeration to help preserve food. A domestic refrigerator is present in 99.5% of American homes. It works using phase change heat pumps operating in a refrigeration cycle. An industrial refrigerator is simply a refrigerator used in an industrial setting, usually in a restaurant or supermarket. ...more on Wikipedia about "Refrigerator"

Sonic or thermoacoustic refrigeration is a technology that uses high-amplitude sound waves in a pressurised gas to pump heat from one place to another. ...more on Wikipedia about "Thermoacoustic refrigeration"

The vortex tube, also known as the Ranque-Hilsch vortex tube, is a heat pump with no moving parts. Pressurized gas is injected into a specially designed chamber. The chamber's internal shape, combined with the pressure, accelerates the gas to a high rate of rotation (over 1,000,000 rpm). The gas is split into two streams, one giving kinetic energy to the other, and resulting in separate flows of hot and cold gases. ...more on Wikipedia about "Vortex tube"
