Hungary The Banat Swabians are a German-speaking population in Southeast Europe, part of the Danube Swabians, who immigrated over 200 years ago from different parts of Southern Germany into Banat, after it had been almost entirely depopulated during wars with Turkey. This formerly strong and important German minority has now become quite small. Almost all its members have returned to Germany. Banat was split between several countries by the Treaty of Trianon: the greatest part went to Romania, a smaller part went to Yugoslavia, and a small strip in the area of Szeged remained with Hungary. ...more on Wikipedia about "Banat Swabians"
