Insecticides

Abamectin is a mixture of avermectins containing more than 80 % avermectin B1a and less than 20% avermectin B1b . These two components, B1a and B1b have very similar biological and toxicological properties. The avermectins are insecticidal or anthelmintic compounds derived from the soil bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis. Abamectin is a natural fermentation product of this bacterium. Abamectin is used to control insect and mite pests of a range of agronomic, fruit, vegetable and ornamental crops, and it is used by homeowners for control of fire ants. Doses of 50 to 200 µg/ kg of ivermectin, a similar member of the avermectin family of compounds, is widely used to treat humans in the World Health Organization onchocerciasis (river blindness) program. ...more on Wikipedia about "Abamectin"

Chromated copper arsenate (CCA) is a wood preservative used for timber treatment, in use since 1930's. It is a mix of copper chromate and copper arsenate. It preserves the wood from rotting due to insects and microbes. It is also known under trade name Tanalith. The chromium acts as a bactericide, the copper acts as fungicide, and the arsenate acts as insecticide. It became used as an alternative to creosote, pentachlorophenol, and coal tar. Sodium silicate is one of the modern alternatives to CCA. ...more on Wikipedia about "Chromated copper arsenate"

Copper arsenate (Cu (AsO ) .4H O, or Cu H (AsO ) .2H O), also called copper orthoarsenate or tricopper arsenate or tricopper orthoarsenate, is an insecticide used in agriculture. It is also used as a herbicide, fungicide, and a rodenticide. It is a blue or bluish-green powder insoluble in water and alcohol and soluble in aqueous ammonium and dilute acids. Its CAS number is or . ...more on Wikipedia about "Copper arsenate"

Copper(I) cyanide, also copper cyanide, cuprous cyanide, or cupricin ( CAS number , EINECS number 208-883-6) is a white to cream colored or sometimes greenish powdery solid that is insoluble in water. Diatomaceous earth, also known as diatomite, kieselguhr, kieselgur, and Celite, is a naturally occurring, soft, chalk-like, sedimentary rock mineral that is easily crumbled into a fine white to off-white powder. This powder has an abrasive feeling similar to pumice powder and is very light-weight due to its high porosity. It is made primarily of silica and consists of fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae. It is used as a filtration aid, as a mild abrasive, as a mechanical insecticide, as an absorbent for liquids, as cat litter, and as a component of dynamite. ...more on Wikipedia about "Diatomaceous earth"

1,2-Dibromoethane is a manufactured chemical. It also occurs naturally in small amounts in the ocean where it is formed, probably by algae and kelp. It is a colorless liquid with a mild, sweet odor. Other names for 1,2-dibromoethane are ethylene dibromide, ethylene bromide, EDB, and glycol bromide. It is manufactured by the reaction of ethylene with bromine. Trade names include Bromofume and Dowfume. ...more on Wikipedia about "Ethylene dibromide"

Fenvalerate is an insecticide. It is a mixture of four optical isomers which have different insecticidal activities. The 2-S alpha (or SS) configuration is the most insecticidally active isomer. Fenvalerate consists of about 23% of this isomer. Its IUPAC name is (RS)-alpha-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl(RS)-2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methylbutyrate. ...more on Wikipedia about "Fenvalerate"

Fipronil is an insecticide used as the active ingredient in Frontline, a topical flea control commonly used on dogs and cats. Roach bait describes the most effective methods used to kill roaches, ones that function on viral principles. Roach Motels are one example. Since roaches actually live in nests, it isn't enough to simply kill the one or two roaches that happen to wander into a trap, as plenty of others won't. Even if you kill all the adult roaches outside the nest, some live eggs will remain in the nest and eventually hatch, which will leave you with the same problem you had before. ...more on Wikipedia about "Roach bait"
