Italy The Aventine Secession was an anti-fascist movement by opposition parties in Mussolini's regime. After the Acerbo Law was passed in 1923, any party with 25% of the votes in an election was automatically provided 2/3 of the parliamentary seats. Following the elections in April 1923, Mussolini secured this 66% plurality of seats. Outspoken socialist Giacomo Matteotti was then murdered after accusing the fascist party of winning the elections through corruption and intimidation, which was in fact true. Matteotti's murder led to an uproar, and all the opposition parties in the parliament walked out in what was referred to as the Aventine Secession. ...more on Wikipedia about "Aventine secession"
