Masters of the Universe In the fictional He-Man universe, Castle Grayskull hid the source of the secret power of the planet Eternia, and possibly the whole universe. Castle Grayskull, which was surrounded by a seemingly bottomless pit, appeared to have been constructed from brick and stone. The face of the castle was shaped like a skull (hence the name) and the skull's mouth was the only entrance (other than the numerous dimensional gates located within the castle). The mouth formed a jawbridge that spanned the abyss to the other side. ...more on Wikipedia about "Castle Grayskull"

In the Masters of the Universe world, The Evil Horde is a galactic empire, led on the planet Etheria by General Hordak. The first Horde warriors (besides Hordak and some Horde Troopers) were Leech, Grizzlor and Mantenna. The true and ultimate ruler of the Horde is Horde Prime, Hordak's older brother.
If we take the 1987 Filmation series as canon Skeletor was a member and a protegé of Hordak's by the time The Horde tried to conquer Eternia (MUTV: He-Man and She-Ra: Secret of the Sword). Although Skeletor is shown in the latter episode as having betrayed The Horde in exchange for his own liberty, in the He-Man and She-Ra Christmas Special both he and Hordak are willing to fulfil the commands of Horde Prime.
It would seem that The Horde method of conquest is through interdimensional travel. The Sorceress states that The Horde does not come from the same dimension as Eternia, nor that Etheria (MUTV: He-Man and She-Ra Secret of The Sword). Hordak himself does not have the ability to travel between dimensions suggesting that it is Horde Prime who transports The Horde.

* There is a lot of confusion over the exact order of the episodes. The production codes allocated appear to indicate nothing more than the formal clearance of an episode's script and often this order is directly contradicted on screen - for example The Return of Orko's Uncle (code: MU023) has an earlier production code than the introduction of Orko's Favourite Uncle (code: MU027). ...more on Wikipedia about "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe"
