Molluscicides

Aluminium sulfate is a widely used industrial chemical. It is sometimes incorrectly referred to as alum, as it is closely related to this group of compounds. It occurs naturally as the mineral alunogenite. It is frequently used in the purification of drinking water supplies, and also in paper manufacturing. ...more on Wikipedia about "Aluminium sulfate"

Metaldehyde is a chemical commonly used as a pesticide to kill slugs and other gastropods. Chemically metaldehyde is a cyclic polymer of acetaldehyde, with IUPAC name: r-2, c-4, c-6, c-8-tetramethyl-1,3,5,7-tetroxocane. ...more on Wikipedia about "Metaldehyde"

Molluscicides are pesticides used to control molluscs, i.e. slugs and snails. These substances include metaldehyde, methiocarb and aluminium sulfate. They should be used with caution, as they can be harmful to non-target animals. Molluscicides are not used in organic gardening. ...more on Wikipedia about "Molluscicide"

Encouraging natural predators will help to keep the slug population under control. A recent development in the control of slugs is the introduction of 'Nemaslug', a microscopic nematode (Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita) that will seek out and parasitize slugs, reproduce inside them and kill them. The nematode is applied by watering onto moist soil, and gives protection for up to six weeks, though is mainly effective with small and young slugs under the soil surface. The nematode is only effective in warm, moist conditions, above about 20°C. ...more on Wikipedia about "Pest control of slugs"

Tributyltin oxide (TBTO), or bis(tri-n-butyltin)oxide, is an organotin compound chiefly used as a biocide ( fungicide and molluscicide), especially a wood preservative. Its chemical formula is 24 54 2. It has the form of a thin, colorless to pale yellow liquid with melting point -45 °C, boiling point 180 °C, and slight water solubility (20 ppm). It is combustible and soluble in organic solvents. ...more on Wikipedia about "Tributyltin oxide"
