Gary Porter is a monster truck driver that races on the USHRA circuit. Gary's involvement in monster truck began in 1983 when he and his brother opened Porter's 4x4 Shop in Wadesboro, NC. Then in 1985, they built their first truck to promote the business and competed at local shows. Modifications to the truck led to Gary's monster-truck racing career. The Porters did exhibitions from 1985 to 1988. He began competing in a monster truck called Carolina Crusher in 1988 in the TNT Motorsports series. He placed fourth in 1988, second in 1989, and third in 1990. Beginning in 1991, he raced in the USHRA/Camel Mud & Monster Series Carolina Crusher placed sixth and became the series champion of the Special Events season. In 1992, the Porters decided to build a second truck in order to compete in three different monster truck series. A third Carolina Crusher appeared for the 1994 season, as did a new shop to host Carolina Crusher Racing. The trucks made 125 appearances in 1994. 1995 saw Carolina Crusher finish fourth in the Special Events Penda Points series. As a ten year veteran of monster truck racing, Gary would like to thank all of Carolina Crusher's fans and friends. He's also regarded as one of the sport's true gentlemen. Grave Digger is the name of a team of monster trucks currently racing in the USHRA Monster Jam series. There are several Grave Diggers being driven by different drivers to allow them to make appearances at more events, but their flagship driver is Dennis Anderson. The original Grave Digger was built in 1981 as a mud bogger and became a monster truck with a 1940's Ford panel van body in 1986. The change also brought about the distinctive graveyard paint scheme by Fred Bumann. In 1989 Grave Digger 2 was built and was modeled after a 1950 Chevy panel truck, which is still the body style of all Grave Digger trucks. In 1991 Grave Digger 3 debuted with a four-link suspesnion and a green colored chassis.
