New towns

Abronhill is a suburb in the northeastern half of Cumbernauld, a new town about 15 miles from Glasgow, Scotland. The suburb was possibly the last built using the same basic design guidelines employed by the rest of Cumbernauld (e.g. underpasses and bridges to cross roads, etc). The town has a shopping centre and high school, along with three primary schools and three churches. Every street in the older part of the area is named after a tree. Bracknell is a town of about 50,000 people (1991) in Bracknell Forest borough, in the English county of Berkshire. It lies about 6 miles (10 kilometres) to the east of Reading. It is about 9 miles south west of Windsor, with Windsor Great Park in between. It is between the M3 and M4 motorways, and the town has two train stations (Bracknell and Martins Heron) on the Reading to London Waterloo line, operated by South West Trains. Cambourne is a new town about nine miles (14 km) west of Cambridge, England, lying in the district of South Cambridgeshire and the county of Cambridgeshire, on the A428 road between Cambridge and St. Neots/Bedford. It comprises three villages: Great Cambourne, Lower Cambourne and Upper Cambourne. The name of the town was created from the names of Cambridge, the nearest city, and Bourn, a nearby village. Cambourne was initially going to be named Monkfield. The area was a former airfield and photographs of aeroplanes that flew in the area can be viewed on the walls inside the villages' supermarket. Construction of the town began in 1998 on what was previously farmland; the final population is expected to be around 10,000. Carbrain is a neighborhood in the Scottish new town of Cumbernauld in North Lanarkshire. Construction of Cumbernauld began in 1963, and most areas of Carbrain were inhabitable by the early 1970's. For the first several years, Carbrain was considered to be highly desirable as an escape from poor housing and lack of employment opportunities in the Glasgow area.
