Peace parks

The International Peace Garden is a 3.65 mile² (9.46 km²) park located on the North Dakota/ Manitoba border, which is also the U.S./ Canada border. Established in 1932, the park plants over 150,000 flowers each year. Main features of the garden include a 18 foot (5.5 m) floral clock display, fountains, a carillon, and twin 120 foot (37 m) concrete towers straddling the border, with a peace chapel at their base. The chapel walls contain peace related quotes from famous people on the walls. Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a large wildlife preserve and conservation area in southern Africa. The park straddles the border between South Africa and Botswana and comprises two adjoining national parks: Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa and Gemsbok National Park in Botswana. Lubombo Transfrontier Conservation Area born out of the peace park’s vision to establish a network of transfrontier conservation areas in Africa. It straddles the border between South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, southern Mozambique and Swaziland. It measures 4 195 km² (, of which 2,783 km² (66%) is in Mozambique, 1,095 km² (26%) is in South Africa and 317 km² (8%) is in Swaziland. It is situated on a low-lying coastal plain between the Lebombo Mountains in the west and the Indian Ocean in the east. The area offers a unique combination of big-game country, extensive wetlands and some of the most beautiful and pristine coastal areas in the world. A Transboundary Protected Area is a protected area that spans across boundaries of multiple countries, where the political border sections that are enclosed within its area are abolished. This includes removal of all forms of physical boundaries, such as fences, allowing free migration of animals and humans within the area.
