Planetary engineering

Ecopoiesis is a neologism created by Robert Haynes. The word was formed from the Greek, οικος, house, and ποιησις, production. Ecopoiesis refers to the origin of an ecosystem. In the context of space exploration, Haynes describes ecopoiesis as the "fabrication of a sustainable ecosystem on a currently lifeless, sterile planet". Ecopoiesis is a type of planetary engineering and can be a major stage of terraformation. The primary stage of ecosystem creation is usually restricted to the initial seeding of microbial life. ...more on Wikipedia about "Ecopoiesis"

Globus Cassus is a utopian project for the transformation of Planet Earth into a much bigger, hollow, artificial world with an ecosphere on its inner surface. Sunlight would enter through two large windows, gravity would be provided by centrifugal force. Humans would live on two vast regions that face each other and that are connected through the empty center. ...more on Wikipedia about "Globus Cassus"

Planetary ecosynthesis is defined as "the making of a home for life on a planetary scale." The term was first used in a 1976 NASA research program and is attributed to Robert MacElroy. ...more on Wikipedia about "Planetary ecosynthesis"

Planetary engineering is the application of technology for the purpose of influencing the global properties of a planet. (Fogg, 1995) The goal of this theoretical task is usually to make other worlds habitable for life. ...more on Wikipedia about "Planetary engineering"

A sunshade is a variation on an umbrella, used for thousands of years to shade people from the Sun. Megastructure sunshades in orbit have been proposed by science fiction writers and more recently are becoming serious engineering proposals. ...more on Wikipedia about "Sunshade"

Terraforming (literally, "Earth-shaping") is the process of modifying a planet, moon or other body to a more habitable atmosphere, temperature or ecology. It is a type of planetary engineering. The term is sometimes used very broadly as a synonym for planetary engineering in general; see that article for related information. This article primarily focuses on the modification of atmospheric and thermal conditions. ...more on Wikipedia about "Terraforming"
