Deep ecology is a recent philosophy or ecosophy based on a shift away from the anthropocentric bias of established environmental and green movements. The philosophy is marked by a new interpretation of "self" which deemphasizes the rationalistic duality between the human organism and its environment, thus allowing emphasis to be placed on the intrinsic value of other species, systems and processes in nature. The global ecology movement is one of several new social movements that emerged at the end of the sixties; its growth has been stimulated by a widespread acknowledgement of an ecological crisis of our planet. Its story has run alongside the environmental narratives that have reached popular consciousness. From the conservation movement at the beginning of the 20th century, then with concern in the sixties about chemical pesticides, the ecological movement was born with Rachel Carson's Silent Spring. There was a great deal of concern over nuclear weapons and nuclear power in sixties and seventies, then there was acid rain in the eighties, ozone depletion and deforestation in the nineties, and now climate change is the biggest concern for many. Progressive Nudism is an alternative movement within the naturist community that rejects the many rules and regulations typical to many nudist venues in favour of complete freedom for all in a non-judgemental atmosphere. Progressive nudists assert that these rules and edicts are a product of the naturist movements past when it was strongly suppressed. In contemporary times in most Western societies these are seen as no longer necessary or appropriate and as inhibiting the growth of the nudist movement as a whole. They go further and argue that true naturism can only exist when sexuality is deregulated and the shame associated with human sexual behaviour is removed. Progressive Nudist venues are usually adults only but this does not mean that they are venues for sex, they are just venues to be nude without the rules.
