Ablation cascade is a term used for a possible catastrophic orbital event. The event could be triggered by the explosive destruction of a satellite. The resulting debris with its wide variety of velocities would impact other satellites. If enough of these exploded, this would result in an exponential increase in the amount of debris, until no satellites were left. ...more on Wikipedia about "Ablation cascade"

Aerospace comprises air and space travel, and associated research. Aerospace is a very diverse industry, which has an immediate impact on the lives of almost everyone. ...more on Wikipedia about "Aerospace"

The aft-crossing trajectory is a flight path for a rocket, which would be slowed by a small parachute attached to its tail, and then ignite once the carrier aircraft has passed it. The rocket is carried in the usual manner, but apparently weighted toward its tail so that the small parachute does not pull the tail upward, and so starts to rotate to point upward. It is ignited before it is pointing fully vertically, but will turn to do so, and accelerate to pass behind the carrier aircraft. ...more on Wikipedia about "Aft-crossing trajectory"

Sir Arthur Charles Clarke (born December 16 1917) is a British author and inventor, most famous for his science-fiction novel 2001: A Space Odyssey, and for collaborating with director Stanley Kubrick on the film of the same name. Clarke is considered one of the Big Three of science fiction, along with Robert A. Heinlein and Isaac Asimov. ...more on Wikipedia about "Arthur C. Clarke"

Artificial gravity is a simulation of gravity in outer space or free-fall. Artificial gravity is desirable for long-term space travel for ease of mobility and to avoid the adverse health effects of weightlessness. ...more on Wikipedia about "Artificial gravity"

Asteroid mining may soon be a method for gathering resources. The basic idea is that raw resources and minerals could be mined from an asteroid in space using a variety of methods. Even a relatively small asteroid with a diameter of one kilometer can contain billions of metric tons of raw materials. ...more on Wikipedia about "Asteroid mining"

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA or, in French, l'Agence spatiale canadienne, ASC) is the Canadian government department space agency responsible for Canada's space program. It was established in March 1989 by the Canadian Space Agency Act and sanctioned in December 1990. The Chief Executive Officer of the agency is the President who reports to the Minister of Industry. ...more on Wikipedia about "Canadian Space Agency"

The Coalition's mission is to increase public understanding and support of the goals and benefits of the Vision for Space Exploration and engage the public and elected officials in active support to help secure and sustain the resources necessary to return the Space Shuttle to flight, complete assembly of the International Space Station, build a crew exploration vehicle, go back to the Moon, and then on to Mars and beyond. ...more on Wikipedia about "Coalition for Space Exploration"

Esrange, the European Space and Sounding Rocket Range, is a rocket range and research centre located outside the town of Kiruna in northern Sweden at . It is a base for scientific research with high altitude balloons, investigation of the aurora borealis, sounding rocket launches, and satellite tracking, among other things. Located 200 km north of the Arctic Circle and surrounded by a vast wilderness, its geographic location is ideal for many of these purposes. ...more on Wikipedia about "Esrange"

EUMETSAT is an intergovernmental organisation created through an international convention agreed by 18 European Member States: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. These States fund the EUMETSAT programs and are the principal users of the systems. EUMETSAT also has eleven Cooperating States. Bush's announcement on January 14, 2004 to return astronauts to the Moon and eventually Mars -- known as the Vision for Space Exploration (and unofficially as "Moon, Mars and Beyond" in some aerospace circles). ...more on Wikipedia about "Exploration Systems Architecture Study"

Extra-terrestrial real estate is either land on other planets or natural satellites or parts of space that is sold either through organisations or by individuals. A geosynchronous satellite is a satellite whose orbital track on the Earth repeats regularly over points on the Earth over time. If such a satellite's orbit lies over the equator, it is called a geostationary satellite. The orbits of the satellites are known as the geosynchronous orbit and geostationary orbit. Other well-known geosynchronous orbits include the well-known Molniya and Tundra elliptical orbits. ...more on Wikipedia about "Geosynchronous satellite"

In astronomy a habitable zone (HZ) is a region of space where conditions are favorable for the creation of life. Planets and moons in these regions are the likeliest candidates to be capable of bearing extraterrestrial life. Astronomers believe that life is most likely to form within the Circumstellar habitable zone (CHZ) within a solar system, and the Galactic habitable zone (GHZ) of the larger galaxy (though research on the latter point remains nascent). The HZ may also be referred to as the "life zone" or the " Goldilocks Zone." ...more on Wikipedia about "Habitable zone"

Helium-3 is a light, non- radioactive isotope of helium. The helion, the nucleus of a helium-3 atom, consists of two protons but only one neutron, in contrast to two neutrons in ordinary helium. Helium-3 is rare on Earth and sought-after for use in nuclear fusion. More abundant helium-3 is thought to exist on the Moon (embedded in the upper layer of regolith by the solar wind over billions of years) and the solar system's gas giants (left over from the original solar nebula). As it is a primordial substance in the Earth's mantle, it is used in isotope geochemistry studies. ...more on Wikipedia about "Helium-3"

The Kessler Syndrome is a scenario, proposed by NASA consultant Donald J. Kessler, in which the volume of space debris in Low Earth Orbit is so high that objects in orbit are struck by debris, creating even more space debris and a greater risk of further impacts. The implication of this scenario is that the escalating amount of debris in orbit could eventually render space exploration, and even the use of satellites, too prone to loss to be feasible for many generations. ...more on Wikipedia about "Kessler Syndrome"
