The use of adventure in therapy has a long history that has influenced the most recent forms of adventure practices in the therapeutic process. Influences from a variety of learning and psychological theories have contributed to the complex theoretical combination within adventure therapy (AT). The learning theories are collectively known as Experiential education. Existing research in adventure therapy reports positive outcomes in effectively improving self concept and self esteem. There are many questions that surround adventure therapy. Even with research reporting positive outcomes it appears that there are many disagreements about the underlying process that creates these positive outcomes (Berman & Davis-Berman, 1995; Gass, 1993; Parker, 1992). This article intends to outline the major aspects to this multi-disciplinary theory. ...more on Wikipedia about "Adventure therapy"

Sand tray therapy is a method of psychological or psychoanalytic therapy which is used to assess the mental health and well-being of children and adults by analyzing how they express themselves through the manipulation of objects in small, tabletop sandboxes (sand-trays). It is often used in tandem with other forms of Jungian psychology / therapy. Sand tray participants are asked to create a diorama (a story or miniature world) by arranging toy people, animals, cars, plants, etc. in the sandtray. The therapist evaluates the subject's choice and use of the objects to help the participant to recognize their deeper " symbolic" natures, and to draw various conclusions about their psychological health. Sand Tray is a non-invasive therapeutic method that works especially well with those individuals who are young or have trouble comprehending and talking about difficult issues, such as domestic abuse or child abuse, incest, or the death of a family member. ...more on Wikipedia about "Sand tray therapy"

Vision therapy, also known as visual therapy or visual training, is a broadly-defined set of treatment programs related to the improvement of visual health and comfort. Probably, the best known form of vision therapy is orthoptics which treats binocular vision disorders such as amblyopia, strabismus, and double vision or diplopia. Other problems treated with vision therapy include difficulties of visual attention and concentration, which are said to manifest as an inability to sustain focus or to shift focus from one area of space to another. The ability to shift the focus of visual attention from one place in space to another is also a critical developed visual ability that affects many aspects of life including reading, most vocations and most avocations. Eye doctors may also prescribe vision therapy to victims of strokes, concussions, and head injuries, as well as sufferers from eye strain and visually-induced headaches. However, not all such therapy is limited to disorders of the visual system. Professional athletes, for example, may use vision therapy to enhance peripheral vision on the playing field or increase responsiveness to fast moving objects. ...more on Wikipedia about "Vision therapy"
