The character is a burnt red bean bread bun who lives in a panya (Japanese bakery), trying to fit in and make friends with the other bread items. Nyan Nyan Nyanko (にゃんにゃんにゃんこ), known as Nyanko for short, are small toys produced by the San-X company sometimes bought with candy that feature a small cat posing in or around a food item (or an item from common culture in Japan). They are highly collectible and come in themed sets, as well as larger plushie versions. The tiny figurines are very typical of San-X's cute style and the small plastic food based Nyanko are regarded as very well-made and well-decorated. Rilakkuma (リラックマ, literally a combination of the Japanese words for relax and bear; also called Relaxuma and Rirakkuma) is a Japanese character produced by the San-X company. He is a brown bear who lives the house of an office lady (OL) named Carol. Rilakkuma, true to his name, enjoys relaxing so much to the point that he despises standing up and is often depicted as lying down while sleeping, watching television, or eating his favorite foods (which include dumplings, pancakes, and pudding). There are sometimes obstacles which stand in his way of relaxing--most notably Korilakkuma, a smaller, younger and mischievous white bear, and Kiiroi Tori, a yellow chicken which often tries to pester Rilakkuma. Curiously, Rilakkuma chooses to be a kigurumi, meaning the Rilakkuma often seen in picture books and the like is actually a costumed character; however, supposedly the animal that is underneath the costume looks similar. ...more on Wikipedia about "Rilakkuma"
