Woodworking hand-held power tools A belt sander is a machine used to quickly sand down wood and other materials for finishing purposes. It consists of a small motor that pulls a sandpaper belt along. Belt sanders can be either hand-held where the sander is moved over the material or stationary (fixed), where the material is moved on a fixed rotating sanding belt. Stationary belt sanders are often combined with a disc sander. On wood, belt sander have a very agressive action and are normally used only for the beginning stages of the sanding process or used to rapidly remove material. ...more on Wikipedia about "Belt sander"
A Biscuit joiner or sometimes plate joiner is a woodworking tool used to join two pieces of wood together. A biscuit joiner uses a small (4" - 100mm) circular saw blade to cut a crescent shaped hole in the opposite edges of two pieces of wood or wood composite panels. An oval shaped compressed wooden biscuit is covered with glue, or glue is applied in the slot. The biscuit is immediately placed in the slot, and the two boards are clamped together. The wet glue expands the biscuit, further improving a bond that is generally stronger than the wood itself. ...more on Wikipedia about "Biscuit joiner"
A chainsaw (also spelled chain saw) is a portable mechanical, motorized saw. It is most commonly used in forestry activities such as logging and tree thinning; by tree surgeons to fell trees and remove branches and foliage; and to harvest firewood. Chainsaws with specially designed blades have been developed as tools for use in chainsaw art. ...more on Wikipedia about "Chainsaw"
Invented in England in 1780, the circular saw (also less-commonly known as the 'buzz saw' in the USA) is a metal disc or blade with saw teeth on the edge as well as the machine that causes the disk to spin. It is a tool for cutting wood or other materials and may be hand-held or table-mounted. ...more on Wikipedia about "Circular saw"
Dremel is the name given to rotary tools made by the Robert Bosch Tool Corporation. Similar tools (for example, those manufactured by Craftsman) are also sometimes called Dremels. They are extremely versatile tools and are used extensively by model makers and hobbyists. ...more on Wikipedia about "Dremel"
A drill is a tool with a rotating drill bit used for drilling holes in various materials. Drills are commonly used in woodworking and metalworking. ...more on Wikipedia about "Drill"
A jigsaw (also called saber saw or sabre saw) is a type of saw used for cutting arbitrary curves, such as stenciled designs or other custom shapes, into a piece of wood or similar material. It is usually used in a more artistic fashion than other saws, which only cut in straight lines and exist mainly to chop pieces of wood to length for building structure. In this way, it is similar to the rasp and the chisel. ...more on Wikipedia about "Jigsaw"
A nail gun or nailgun is a type of tool used to drive nails into wood or some other kind of material. It is usually driven by electromagnetism, compressed air or a small explosive charge. Smaller nail guns are often called brad nailers. Nail guns have in many ways replaced hammers as tools of choice amongst builders. ...more on Wikipedia about "Nail gun"
In woodworking, a planer is a machine used to plane wood. It is applied to different machines in different parts of the world. ...more on Wikipedia about "Planer"
A power tool is a tool with a motor. The addition of the motor, usually electric but may be pneumatic or hydraulic, reduces the work that the operator has to do, and sometimes makes it possible for the operator to do things that are difficult or impossible to do by hand. Common power tools include the drill, various types of saws, the router, the electric sander, and the lathe. All of these tools have manual equivalents (see hand tool). ...more on Wikipedia about "Power tool"
Random orbit sanders are hand-held power sanders where the action is a random orbit. They were first introduced in the early 1990s and quickly became tremendously popular. Random orbit sanders combine almost the speed and aggressiveness of a belt sander, with the ability to produce a finer finish than that available from a standard, slow speed, orbital finishing sander. ...more on Wikipedia about "Random orbital sander"
Reciprocating saws are saws with a straight blade mounted at the end of a gun-like body. The blade moves back and forth (hence the name "reciprocating"), much like the action of a jigsaw, but reciprocating saws are much more powerful and versatile than jigsaws. If fitted with the correct blade they are able to cut through virtually anything, but make rather rough cuts compared with other types of saws, so they are generally used for demolition work. ...more on Wikipedia about "Reciprocating saw"
A Rotary tool is a handheld power tool with a variety of rotating accessory bits and attachments that can be used for cutting, carving, sanding, polishing and many other applications. Popular brands include Dremel. ...more on Wikipedia about "Rotary tool"
A sander is a power tool used to smooth wood and automotive or wood finishes. Sanders have a means to attach the sandpaper that does the work. Woodworking sanders are usually operated by electrical power while the ones used in auto-body repair work on compressed air. ...more on Wikipedia about "Sander"
A router is a woodworking tool used to rout out (hollow out) an area in the face of a piece of wood. It was a tool particularly used by pattern makers and consisted of a broad-based wooden hand plane with a narrow blade projecting well beyond its base plate. Since about 1960, it has been replaced by the modern spindle router, which was designed for the same work. Further refinement has produced the even more recent plunging spindle router, which is even better adapted for many types of work. Today, traditional hand-powered routers are often called router planes. ...more on Wikipedia about "Wood router"
