Woodworking machines

A band saw is a saw that can be used for woodworking, metal working, and a variety of other materials. It gets its name from its blade, consisting of a narrow band of toothed metal. This band rides on two large wheels stacked vertically with a space between them. Band saws are particularly useful for cutting irregular shapes. The radius of a curve that can be cut on a particular saw is determined by the width of the band. ...more on Wikipedia about "Band saw"

A belt sander is a machine used to quickly sand down wood and other materials for finishing purposes. It consists of a small motor that pulls a sandpaper belt along. Belt sanders can be either hand-held where the sander is moved over the material or stationary (fixed), where the material is moved on a fixed rotating sanding belt. Stationary belt sanders are often combined with a disc sander. On wood, belt sander have a very agressive action and are normally used only for the beginning stages of the sanding process or used to rapidly remove material. ...more on Wikipedia about "Belt sander"

Invented in England in 1780, the circular saw (also less-commonly known as the 'buzz saw' in the USA) is a metal disc or blade with saw teeth on the edge as well as the machine that causes the disk to spin. It is a tool for cutting wood or other materials and may be hand-held or table-mounted. ...more on Wikipedia about "Circular saw"

A wood CNC Router is similar to a metal CNC mill with the following differences: ...more on Wikipedia about "CNC wood router"

A combination machine is a woodworking machine that combines the functions of two or more separate machines into a single unit. For example, a combination machine might consist of a tablesaw with a side mounted jointer. Another common example of this type of machine is the jointer-thicknesser (also known as an over-under) which combines the function of a jointer with that of a thicknesser. ...more on Wikipedia about "Combination machine"

A drill is a tool with a rotating drill bit used for drilling holes in various materials. Drills are commonly used in woodworking and metalworking. ...more on Wikipedia about "Drill"

A jointer (also known as a planer, surface planer, buzzer, or flat top) is a woodworking machine used in woodworking to produce a flat surface on a board. ...more on Wikipedia about "Jointer" shortopedia - Xtending Info.

In woodturning, metalworking, metal spinning, and glassworking, a lathe is a machine tool which spins a block of material so that when abrasive, cutting, or deformation tools are applied to the block, it can be shaped to produce an object which has rotational symmetry about an axis of rotation. The material is held in place by either one or two centers, at least one of which can be moved horizontally to accommodate varying material lengths. Examples of objects that can be produced on a lathe include candlestick holders, table legs, bowls, baseball bats, crankshafts and camshafts. ...more on Wikipedia about "Lathe (tool)"

A mortiser is a very specialized woodworking machine used to cut square or rectangular holes in a piece of lumber, such as a mortise in a mortise and tenon joint. ...more on Wikipedia about "Mortiser"

Panel dividing equipment is a type of woodworking machine ( panel line) that is intended to divide master panel into sized parts. ...more on Wikipedia about "Panel dividing equipment"

Panel saw is a type of woodworking machine > panel line > panel dividing equipment that is intended to divide panel sheets into sized parts. Panel saws are the backbone of cabinet shops and are used to easily cut plywood and melamine sheets into cabinet componants. Panel saws typically fall into one of two categories: Horizontal and Vertical. Newer panelsaws feature computer controls that move the blade and fence systems to preset values to increase shop productivity. ...more on Wikipedia about "Panel saw"

In woodworking, a planer is a machine used to plane wood. It is applied to different machines in different parts of the world. ...more on Wikipedia about "Planer"

A power tool is a tool with a motor. The addition of the motor, usually electric but may be pneumatic or hydraulic, reduces the work that the operator has to do, and sometimes makes it possible for the operator to do things that are difficult or impossible to do by hand. Common power tools include the drill, various types of saws, the router, the electric sander, and the lathe. All of these tools have manual equivalents (see hand tool). ...more on Wikipedia about "Power tool"

A radial arm saw is a machine intended for cutting materials to length. It is primarily a woodworking machine, although it is sometimes used for cutting metals, such as angle iron or aluminum extrusions. Before the advent of the radial arm saw, table saws and hand saws were most commonly used for crosscutting lumber. Table saws are ideal for ripping stock, but it is awkward to push a long piece of stock widthwise through a table saw blade. When a radial arm saw is used, the stock remains stationary on the saw's table and the blade is pulled through the stock. ...more on Wikipedia about "Radial arm saw"

A rose engine lathe is a specialized kind of ornamental lathe. The headstock rocks back and forth, controlled by a rubber moving against a rosette or cam-like pattern mounted on the spindle, while the lathe spindle rotates. Rose engine work can make flower patterns, as well as convoluted, symmetrical, multi-lobed organic patterns. The patterns it produces are similar to that of a Spirograph, in metal. No other ornamental lathe can produce these "rose" patterns. ...more on Wikipedia about "Rose engine lathe"

A sander is a power tool used to smooth wood and automotive or wood finishes. Sanders have a means to attach the sandpaper that does the work. Woodworking sanders are usually operated by electrical power while the ones used in auto-body repair work on compressed air. ...more on Wikipedia about "Sander"

A table saw or sawbench is the most common piece of large woodworking equipment. Because of its versatility, when only one piece of large woodworking machinery is owned, it will often be a table saw. The saw consists of a circular saw blade, mounted on an arbor, that is driven by an electric motor (either directly or by belt or gears). The blade protrudes through the surface of a table, which provides support for the material (usually wood) being cut. ...more on Wikipedia about "Table saw"

A thicknesser (also known as a thickness planer) is a woodworking machine which is used to create boards that are of an even thickness throughout their length. ...more on Wikipedia about "Thicknesser"

A water jet cutter is a tool capable of slicing into metal or other materials using a jet of water at high velocity and pressure, or a mixture of water and an abrasive substance. The process is essentially the same as water erosion found in nature but accelerated and concentrated by orders of magnitude. It is often used during fabrication or manufacture of parts for machinery and other devices. It has found applications in a diverse number of industries from mining to aerospace where it is used for operations such as cutting, shaping, carving, reaming. ...more on Wikipedia about "Water jet cutter"

A wood shaper usually just shaper in North America or spindle moulder in the U.K. is a stationary woodworking machine in which a spindle spins at moderately high speeds. Specially shaped bits are mounted on the spindle. As the workpiece is fed into the machine, the bit cuts a profile into it. On some shapers, router bits can also be used using a special mounting adapter. ...more on Wikipedia about "Wood shaper"

A Woodworking machine is a machine that is intended to process wood. These machines are usually powered by electric motors and are used extensively in woodworking. Sometimes grinding machines (for grinding woodworking tools) are also considered a part of woodworking machinery. ...more on Wikipedia about "Woodworking machine"
